Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a challenging period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.
Presently training with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.
It is Medvedev's maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after March of that year.
Victory also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one different competitions.
"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," said ranked player the champion.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on court had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.
However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.
He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.
The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to create a final set.
Moutet rescued four early break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
